Cobb & Douglas Public Health has received a $374,611 state grant to support child car-seat inspections, safety education and seats for financially eligible families.

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety award covers Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027, according to the health department’s Oct. 29 announcement.

Safe Kids Cobb and Safe Kids Douglas, both led by the health department, will provide the services to residents of the two counties.

District Deputy Director Lisa Crossman said the funding will allow the coalitions to continue helping families check their car seats, learn about child passenger safety and obtain seats when needed.

The department did not announce how many car or booster seats it expects to distribute, the financial eligibility thresholds or a grant-specific application process.

Families seeking assistance can contact Safe Kids locally at 770-852-3285 or email [email protected]. The department’s Safe Kids contact page also links to car-seat inspection booking.

The coalitions have worked with families for more than 30 years, according to the health department. Their broader injury-prevention work includes school partnerships, parent workshops and distribution of safety equipment such as helmets and car seats, along with guidance on using it properly.
