Cobb County’s election board is scheduled to certify the Nov. 3 returns at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, following several days of ballot review and reconciliation.

The meeting will be held in the Board of Commissioners meeting room at 100 Cherokee Street in Marietta, according to the county’s announcement.

Local leadership changes await certification

Unofficial returns show Democrat Kevin Redmon ahead of Republican Commissioner JoAnn Birrell in District 3. Redmon’s victory would increase Democrats’ commission majority to 4–1.

In school board Post 4, Democrat Micheal Garza defeated Republican incumbent David Chastain in the unofficial count. That result would give Democrats a 4–3 majority when Garza takes office in January, according to the Cobb County Courier.

Both contests remain subject to certification.

Ballot review continues

Before Monday’s meeting, election workers are checking precinct paperwork, reconciling participation records and reviewing ballots whose eligibility requires additional documentation.

The elections board has a separate review meeting scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at the elections office, 995 Roswell Street NE.

Voters needing to resolve certain absentee or provisional ballot issues have until 5 p.m. Friday to provide documentation. Eligible military and overseas ballots may also be counted after Election Day under Georgia law.

Absentee voters can check their ballot status through Georgia’s My Voter Page. People with provisional ballots or questions about correcting a ballot issue should contact Cobb Elections at 770-528-2581.

Audits follow the county vote

Cobb has scheduled post-election audits for Nov. 13, 16 and 17. Those checks use paper ballots and a separate review of ballot images to assess the tabulation. Public observation will be permitted, with details posted by the county.

Georgia’s deadline for statewide certification is Nov. 20. County certification and the subsequent state review are distinct steps; election-night projections do not replace either process.
