East Cobb residents looking to add a pet to the family can adopt any animal at Cobb County Animal Services for $20 through the end of July. The fee is waived entirely if adopters bring a donation of cat or dog food, according to the shelter's official website.

The shelter's featured cat for Tuesday, July 21, is Noir, a 4-month-old female black domestic shorthair kitten weighing 3 pounds. She is housed in cage No. 682, listed under animal ID 20799 with an active status, according to the Cobb County Courier's Cat of the Day feature.

Noir is one of many animals available at the Al Bishop Drive facility in Marietta, about a 15-minute drive from East Cobb.

Appointment policy update

Cobb County Animal Services said in a July 21 statement to the Cobb County Courier that appointments are preferred but not required for adoptions. Walk-ins are welcome, though anyone arriving at the same time as a scheduled visitor will be seen after the appointment holder. The shelter's online booking service at cobbcounty.gov/pets is available around the clock.

No appointment is needed for citizens bringing in strays, looking for a lost pet, or reclaiming an animal. Owner surrenders still require a scheduled visit.

How to visit

The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is closed Mondays and holidays. Animal intake stops at 4 p.m. daily.

Cobb County Animal Services is located at 1060 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta, GA 30008. The phone number is (770) 499-4136.

The facility includes a bonding room where prospective adopters can meet animals before committing. Staff encourage visitors to bring existing pets along so families can see how animals interact.
