East Cobb residents will get face time with their county commissioner when District 2's Erick Allen hosts a town hall Thursday, August 6, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Charles D. Switzer Library, 266 Roswell St. NE, Marietta.

Cobb County announced the event Monday, July 20, on its official social media account. The county's post includes a registration link for residents who plan to attend.

Timing and context

The town hall falls shortly after the Board of Commissioners' scheduled Tuesday, July 28, vote to adopt the FY2027 budget and set property tax millage rates. The proposed operating budget totals $1.409 billion, an $84.7 million increase, with the General Fund rising $29 million to $672 million. The county is proposing to hold millage rates flat at 8.46 mills for the General Fund.

Property taxes have been a flashpoint. At the first budget public hearing Tuesday, July 14, East Cobb resident Christina White told commissioners that rising assessments hit hard even when rates stay level.

"You would actually have to sell the house to realize the value. In the meantime, we have to pay the taxes," White said.

The second public hearing is set for Tuesday, July 21, at 6:30 p.m., with the final hearing and adoption vote on Tuesday, July 28, at 7 p.m. Both take place at the David Hankerson Building, 100 Cherokee St., Marietta.

Allen won a special election for the District 2 seat in April 2025, becoming the first African American man elected to the Cobb County Board of Commissioners. He previously represented the 40th district in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023.
