Mzizi Coffee Roaster on Johnson Ferry Road scored a 77 during a routine health inspection Monday, Sept. 14, earning a C grade. That was the lowest score among 15 East Cobb establishments inspected Sept. 14–15 by Cobb and Douglas Public Health, according to a roundup by East Cobb News.
The C grade marks a continued slide for the coffee shop at 2995 Johnson Ferry Road, Suite 220. Mzizi scored an 83 (B) in its October 2025 inspection and an 87 (B) in November 2024, according to state inspection records. Hassane Guira is listed as the certified food safety manager on file.
Under Georgia's grading scale, scores of 90–100 earn an A, 80–89 a B, 70–79 a C, and 69 or below an unsatisfactory mark. Restaurants scoring 70 or lower face mandatory re-inspection within 10 working days. Mzizi's 77 is above that cutoff, so no mandatory re-inspection is required.
The inspector spent two and a half hours at Mzizi, arriving at 12:30 p.m. and leaving at 3 p.m. Specific violations cited in the report were not available for review.
Two other East Cobb restaurants received B grades. Mayan Kitchen, at 2595 Sandy Plains Road, Suite 101, scored an 89 on Tuesday, Sept. 15. That's a step down from its prior A grades of 91 in November 2025 and 96 in January 2025. Gabriela Salas is the certified food safety manager on file.
China Great Wall, at 1860 Sandy Plains Road, Suite 302, scored an 80 (B) on Sept. 15. Its two prior inspections, in November 2025 and October 2024, both earned 87s.
The remaining 12 establishments all earned A grades. Johnny's New York Style Pizza, at 4880 Lower Roswell Road, scored a 99. New York Best Bagel and Cafe, at 4811 Lower Roswell Road, and Mango's Ice Cream and Snacks, at 2745 Sandy Plains Road, both scored perfect 100s. Campestre Taqueria on East Piedmont Road scored a 96, as did the Subway on Roswell Road. Bruster's Ice Cream on Trickum Road scored a 90.
Six Cobb County schools in the area also received perfect 100 scores: Addison Elementary, Kincaid Elementary, Sprayberry High School, Keheley Elementary, Nicholson Elementary and Simpson Middle School.
