A man is hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a car on Riverside Parkway near Premier Lane in Mableton on Sunday night, July 19, according to Cobb County Police.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla that hit the pedestrian remained at the scene. Police have not released arrest information as of Monday, July 20.
The Cobb County Police Department is investigating the crash. The department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program unit, known as STEP, typically handles all serious and fatal traffic crashes in the county. Police have not confirmed whether STEP has been assigned to this case.
No additional details about the circumstances of the crash, including the time of night or the pedestrian's identity, have been released.
Pedestrian safety efforts in Mableton and Cobb County
Riverside Parkway runs through Mableton, a city that received a $240,000 federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant in January 2026 to develop a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. The plan is focused on identifying the city's most dangerous intersections and corridors and improving pedestrian safety and roadway design.
"Our goal has always been to build a more connected, livable Mableton, and this $240,000 investment allows us to identify and address our most dangerous intersections and corridors," Mayor Michael Owens said in January when the city announced the grant. The plan has not yet identified specific corridors for improvement, and it is not known whether Riverside Parkway is among the roads being studied.
Cobb County separately received $8.45 million in federal SS4A funding in January 2026 for safety improvements on three other corridors: Olive Springs Road, Pat Mell Road, and Windy Hill Road. Those roads were identified in the county's 2023 Comprehensive Safety Action Plan as having high concentrations of fatal and serious-injury crashes.
Cobb County DOT Director Drew Raessler said in January that the grant "will help make those trips safer" for residents who depend on county roads for daily travel.
Neither grant program covers Riverside Parkway specifically, and no connection between Saturday's crash and the safety planning efforts has been established.
