The Kroger at 3162 Johnson Ferry Road is reopening Friday, July 24, after a $1.1 million renovation that adds a Murray's Cheese Shop and updated fixtures to the Shallowford Falls store.
Kroger's Atlanta Division will mark the project with a ribbon-cutting and community celebration at 9 a.m., according to the Marietta Daily Journal.
The renovation is the second major Kroger upgrade along East Cobb's grocery corridors this summer. The Sandy Plains Centre Kroger at 2960 Shallowford Road reopened Friday, July 10, after a $1.85 million overhaul that also brought in a Murray's Cheese counter, a sushi island, and refreshed bakery and produce sections.
Murray's Cheese Shop
The specialty counter offers artisanal cheeses cut to order. Kroger has rolled out Murray's Cheese shops to hundreds of locations nationwide, and the Shallowford Falls store is now the second East Cobb location to carry the brand following the Sandy Plains Centre addition earlier this month.
School and food bank partnerships
The ribbon-cutting includes a Partners in Education tie-in with three nearby schools: Shallowford Falls Elementary School, Hightower Trail Middle School, and Pope High School. The program connects individual Kroger stores with local schools for fundraising and volunteer support.
An Atlanta Community Food Bank component tied to Kroger's Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative will also be part of the celebration, giving shoppers a direct way to contribute to food security on opening day. The Zero Hunger | Zero Waste program is Kroger's corporate effort to end hunger and eliminate food waste across its footprint, which in the Atlanta Division covers Georgia, South Carolina, and eastern Alabama.
Kroger and its vendor partners donated $217,000 to Marietta-based MUST Ministries earlier in 2026 to open two school-based food pantries in the Atlanta area through the same initiative.
