A Georgia State Patrol trooper used a PIT maneuver to end a chase on Interstate 75 near Chastain Road on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The driver, a 21-year-old Tennessee man, now faces a criminal homicide charge in his father's death.

Anthony Peacock Rumbel of Dunlap, Tennessee, was speeding and weaving through traffic in a black Toyota Tundra when a trooper spotted him, WSB-TV reported. GSP had been alerted that Rumbel was believed to be heading south on I-75 in Cobb County. He refused to stop.

The chase ended after the trooper executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT maneuver), forcing the truck to a halt. Troopers searching the vehicle found evidence they believe is connected to a homicide investigation in Tennessee.

Hours earlier, deputies from the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office had responded around 3:30 p.m. CDT to a home in the 100 block of Green Forest Road in Dunlap, Local 3 News reported. They found 46-year-old Michael Rumbel dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Sequatchie County Sheriff Bill Phillips said in an emailed statement to the Chattanooga Times Free Press that investigators identified Anthony Rumbel as the suspect and issued a multistate alert. "A multistate be-on-the-lookout was issued for Rumbel and his vehicle," Phillips said. "He was captured a short time later in the Marietta, Georgia, area after being spotted by Georgia authorities."

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation took over as lead agency at the request of 12th Judicial District Attorney General Courtney Lynch, according to a TBI newsroom release. Phillips said the sheriff's office recused itself because an employee is related to people involved in the incident.

TBI agents obtained an arrest warrant charging Rumbel with one count of criminal homicide. TBI spokesperson Mariah Dunlop told the Times Free Press the investigation remains open.

Cobb County jail records show Rumbel was booked on a fugitive from justice warrant at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10. As of Friday, Sept. 11, he remained in custody at the Cobb County Jail awaiting extradition to Tennessee. No hearing date has been set.
