A comfort dog who can read and respond to commands in Spanish is getting a party, and East Cobb families are invited.

The Cobb Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office will host "Paws for Justice" on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the RedBud Blossom Family Justice Center, 277 Fairground St. SE, Marietta. The free event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to the public, pets included. (Note: The county website lists a different time window; attendees should confirm via the Eventbrite listing.)

The celebration marks five years of service for Rose, the DA office's comfort dog, who works in the Victim Witness Unit helping crime victims and their families. It also introduces two new comfort dogs: Lexi and Justice.

Investigator Dr. Tracy Sargent trained both puppies, who earned their AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Certification at just three months old, according to the Cobb County Government. The dogs support trauma victims, assist during courtroom testimony, help abused children during forensic interviews and visit schools and nursing homes.

Rose isn't going anywhere. The Cobb County Government said in a June 2025 post that she will stay on as a "big sister" to the two new pups while they complete training.

What to expect

Beyond meeting the dogs, attendees can take advantage of free pet adoptions, free animal nail clipping, mobile grooming from Zoomin Groomin, animal portraits, snow cones and free cupcakes while supplies last.

The RedBud Blossom Family Justice Center opened in January 2024 as a division of District Attorney Sonya F. Allen's office. It serves victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child and elder abuse, human trafficking and stalking, providing a single location so victims don't have to retell their stories to multiple agencies.

The center sits about 10 miles from the heart of East Cobb.

How to attend

Admission is free. RSVP through Eventbrite. The DA's office announced the event in early August, calling it a chance to learn about the role comfort dogs play in supporting victims and families in the community.
