A kitten named Peggy was stolen from the adoption area at the Akers Mill Petco off Cobb Parkway on Sept. 19, according to Pounce de Leon Cat Rescue.
FOX 5 Atlanta reported that Peggy is a 5½-month-old tuxedo kitten. Cobb County police responded to the store around 2:30 p.m. that day.
The rescue said surveillance footage shows two people waiting until an employee left the area before removing Peggy. According to WSB-TV’s report, a man placed her in a carrier, and the pair also took pet supplies without paying.
Peggy had been housed at the store through the rescue’s adoption program. The organization told WSB-TV that it had never previously had a cat stolen.
The rescue said a police report was filed and an investigator assigned. As of FOX 5’s Oct. 6 report, the people involved had not been identified and Peggy’s whereabouts remained unknown. Neither outlet announced an arrest.
Pounce de Leon is asking residents to look for Peggy in online pet-rehoming posts, including Facebook groups, Nextdoor and Marketplace listings. The group urges people to save relevant screenshots and avoid confronting anyone directly.
