Residents near Dobbins Air Reserve Base can expect louder-than-usual noise through Friday, Aug. 14, as the 94th Airlift Wing conducts a routine training exercise involving its fleet of C-130 Hercules aircraft.

The base, located in unincorporated Cobb County adjacent to East Cobb neighborhoods, announced Monday, Aug. 10, that the exercise would run through the end of the week and bring noise impacts to surrounding areas.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, the base said community members should be assured the operations are for exercise purposes and that noise in surrounding areas is expected during the training period.

The noise is temporary.

East Cobb News reported the exercise "may generate more attention than usual," citing the base's announcement.

A recurring advisory

This type of notice is familiar to longtime East Cobb residents. Dobbins has issued similar warnings in the past when training exercises produced loud sirens and increased aircraft activity over the area.

The 94th Airlift Wing, an Air Force Reserve unit assigned to the Twenty-Second Air Force, operates more than 1,600 personnel across 14 squadrons at Dobbins. The base logs over 14,000 flight operations annually, making periodic noise advisories a fact of life for nearby neighborhoods along Johnson Ferry Road and other corridors east of the installation.

The exercise is scheduled to wrap up by Friday, Aug. 14. No specific times of day for operations were included in the base's announcement.
