A Cobb County police officer and another driver were hospitalized Friday, Aug. 28, after a three-car crash at Old Canton Road and Robinson Road in East Cobb.

The crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. and involved a marked patrol car, Atlanta News First reported, citing the Cobb County Police Department. Both the officer and the other driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital, 11Alive reported, also citing the department. A third driver was not hurt.

The intersection was shut down while investigators processed the scene. WSB-TV reporter Michele Newell, reporting from the location, said the roadway was expected to remain closed for an extended period. The intersection has since reopened, Atlanta News First reported.

The Cobb County Police Department said its STEP Unit will handle the investigation. The unit is responsible for investigating fatal traffic crashes and, when requested, crashes involving department vehicles, according to the department's own description of the unit.

The officer's identity has not been released. No determination has been made on what caused the crash. Fox 5 Atlanta noted on X that the crash involved a marked police car, which shut down the intersection while investigators worked the scene.
