Cobb County Police charged a Northeast Cobb man with felony aggravated assault after he allegedly pointed a handgun at two family members.

Jordan Lieber, 22, of a home on Highland Plains Court, faces two felony counts of aggravated assault, a felony count of exploiting a disabled or elderly person and two misdemeanor counts of simple battery, according to an arrest warrant reported by East Cobb News.

The warrant states that on Sept. 5, between 11:59 a.m. and 1:42 p.m., Lieber pointed a Taurus pistol at his 79-year-old grandmother inside the Highland Plains Court residence and threatened to kill her. He then threw her to the ground and held her down, according to the warrant.

All three family members live at the home.

When Lieber's mother tried to intervene, he pointed the gun at her head and threatened to kill her as well, the warrant states.

The grandmother was thrown to the ground twice during the incident. She had an arm twisted behind her neck and suffered a minor elbow injury, according to the warrant.

When Cobb County Police officers arrived, Lieber intentionally spit on an officer as he was being loaded into a patrol vehicle, the warrant states.

After he was taken into custody, Lieber told officers he felt the only way out of his situation was to kill his grandmother or himself, according to the warrant.

Lieber is held without bond.

His booking report lists the Cobb County Adult Detention Center as his current facility. No arraignment date appeared in public records as of the warrant's filing.

Under Georgia law, aggravated assault against a person over 65 carries a prison sentence of three to 20 years upon conviction. The elder exploitation charge, defined under O.C.G.A. § 16-5-102, carries a separate penalty of one to 20 years, a fine of up to $50,000, or both.

The charges against Lieber are allegations. No conviction has been entered, and no response from Lieber or an attorney appeared in public records as of publication.
