State Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick, whose 32nd District covers portions of East Cobb and Cherokee County, has been elected to the 63-member Executive Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures, the bipartisan body that governs the organization representing all 50 state legislatures.

Kirkpatrick's office announced the election Thursday, July 23, with a dateline of Monday, July 20. The Marietta Republican also was nominated to serve as Georgia's Host State Member for the 2027 NCSL Legislative Summit, scheduled for August 9–11, 2027, in Atlanta. In that role, she will help coordinate preparations and showcase Georgia to visiting legislators and staff.

The summit is one of the largest annual gatherings of state lawmakers in the country. The 2025 edition in Boston drew more than 9,000 attendees, a record for the organization, according to NCSL's 2025 annual report. NCSL projects more than 7,000 attendees for the 2026 summit opening July 27 in Chicago.

"I look forward to representing Georgia, contributing to those conversations and helping ensure state legislatures remain strong, effective institutions that best serve the people," Kirkpatrick said in the announcement.

The Executive Committee meets four times a year to set NCSL's policy direction and oversee its programs. Kirkpatrick previously served as vice chair of NCSL's Children, Families, and Human Services Committee, according to legislative records.

In the Georgia Senate, she chairs the Children and Families Committee and serves as secretary of the Senate Majority Caucus. Before entering politics, she practiced as an orthopedic hand surgeon in Atlanta for more than 30 years and was president of Resurgens Orthopaedics.
