Lassiter is headed to Columbus after sweeping Decatur 15-2 and 14-1 Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the second round of the Class AAAAAA state softball playoffs.

The Trojans will open state championship tournament play Oct. 28 at the South Commons Softball Complex against the winner of the Veterans-Glynn Academy series, the Marietta Daily Journal reported. Lassiter is chasing its first state title since 2021.

Two dominant pitching performances anchored the sweep. Sophomore Ally Batroff started Game 1 and allowed one hit with four strikeouts, improving her season record to 15-1. Freshman McKenna Jeter took the circle in Game 2, giving up just two hits and one run while striking out two. Jeter's record moved to 10-1.

"I had great control of my screwball and riser," Batroff said.

Lassiter's bats matched the pitching. In the opener, the Trojans fell behind 2-0 after Decatur capitalized on a walk, a throwing error and three stolen bases in the first inning. Lassiter answered with three runs in the bottom of the first and never trailed again, adding four in the second, five in the third and three in the fourth.

Centerfielder Peyton Ushery, a University of Georgia commit, led the Game 1 offense with four singles and four runs scored. Katelyn Batroff went 2-for-3 with a walk, scored three runs and drove in another.

Game 2 was tighter early. Decatur's GG Smith scored on a Maddie Jackson single to make it 2-1 after four innings. Then Lassiter broke it open with a two-out, five-run rally in the fifth. Katelyn Batroff ripped a two-run triple, Anna Beth Hewitt followed with a bunt single that drove Batroff home, and Aimee Batroff singled in Hewitt after a stolen base and a pair of wild pitches.

The Trojans piled on seven more in the sixth. In the seventh, Ushery cracked a two-run single to push the score to 10-1, Hewitt added a run-scoring triple, and Aimee Batroff's sacrifice fly to center capped the scoring.

Hewitt finished Game 2 going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Alexa Merino, the No. 9 hitter, went 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and three stolen bases.

Lassiter coach Jason Campbell called Ally Batroff the Trojans' "cornerstone pitcher all year" and pointed to strong defense and clutch hitting across both games.

Ushery committed to Georgia on Sept. 1, the first day the recruiting contact period opened for the Class of 2028, according to Line Drive Media. She earned GACA First Team All-State honors in 2024 and 2025.

Lassiter opens state tournament play Oct. 28 in Columbus against the winner of the Veterans-Glynn Academy second-round series.
