A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries Tuesday morning, Aug. 4, after colliding with a car on an Interstate 285 collector-distributor ramp in Cobb County, according to a Cobb County Police Department news release first reported by the Marietta Daily Journal. I-285 is a major commuter corridor for East Cobb residents traveling toward Atlanta and connecting interstates.
Investigators say the motorcyclist pulled into the lane of a 2018 Nissan Versa and was thrown from the motorcycle, WSB Radio reported, citing Cobb Police. The rider was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The Nissan driver suffered minor injuries.
The crash occurred on a collector-distributor ramp, the parallel lanes that allow drivers to enter and exit I-285 without merging directly into through traffic. Police have not released the specific exit number, direction of travel or the identities of either person involved.
Investigation continues
The Cobb County Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit handles all serious-injury collisions in the county by department policy and uses drone technology to photograph scenes and assist with crash reconstruction. Police have not confirmed whether STEP is assigned to this specific case.
The Aug. 4 crash marks the second serious motorcycle collision in Cobb County in less than two weeks. On July 25, a rider sustained life-threatening injuries in a crash on Barrett Parkway near Anderson Estates Court, also under investigation by the STEP Unit.
The investigation remains open.
