A Powder Springs man was arrested on impaired driving charges Monday, Aug. 17, near the Sprayberry High School intersection in East Cobb, according to East Cobb News.
Michael Eddington spent the night in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center following the arrest, Cobb Sheriff's Office booking records show.
Charges
Eddington was charged with two misdemeanor counts: driving under the influence of multiple substances and impeding the flow of traffic. Both are misdemeanor offenses that will be handled in Cobb County State Court. No court date has been announced.
School-zone location
The arrest took place near the intersection at Sprayberry High School, located at 2525 Sandy Plains Road at Piedmont Road in Marietta. The intersection is one of the busiest in East Cobb, serving as a primary route for student drivers, school buses and parents during morning and afternoon drop-off.
Sprayberry is a comprehensive high school serving approximately 1,700 students in grades 9–12.
The timing adds weight. Cobb County Schools opened the 2026-27 school year on Monday, Aug. 3, meaning the arrest came just two weeks into the new term, with more than 105,000 students districtwide back in class.
No official statement
Neither the Cobb County Police Department nor the Sheriff's Office issued a public statement about the arrest beyond what appeared in booking records. East Cobb News reporter Wendy Parker first reported the arrest on Tuesday, Aug. 18, citing those records.
The East Cobb Beacon was unable to obtain additional comment from either agency.
What residents can do
Cobb County authorities encourage residents who witness impaired or reckless driving to call 911 immediately. School-zone speed limits and traffic laws carry enhanced penalties during posted hours when students are present.
Eddington's case remains pending.
