Three East Cobb schools have landed a national honor that only five Georgia PTAs earned this cycle, a recognition built on the kind of parent volunteerism that shapes daily life inside the buildings.
Mountain View Elementary School PTA, Dodgen Middle School PTSA and Keheley Elementary School PTA were named 2025-2027 National PTA Schools of Excellence, the East Cobb County Council of PTAs announced in early August. Out of 321 PTAs honored nationwide, the three East Cobb units account for more than half of Georgia's five designees.
"I just felt it shines a great light on our East Cobb area and the level of volunteering and engagement in our schools!" Lindse Parsons, co-president of the Mountain View PTA, told East Cobb News.
The other two Georgia honorees are Garrison School for the Arts PTA in Savannah and Simpson Elementary School PTA in Peachtree Corners, according to the National PTA's official roster.
What the designation requires
PTAs must complete a structured, year-long process grounded in National PTA's six standards for family-school partnerships: welcoming all families, communicating effectively, supporting student success, speaking up for every child, sharing power and collaborating with the community.
The bar is high. The process includes gathering community feedback in the fall, building an action plan based on that data, measuring progress in the spring and submitting a Community Impact Form by June 15. Designees receive a banner, a certificate and the two-year national title.
National PTA says more than 40 years of research links increased family engagement to school improvement and student achievement.
How other East Cobb families can get involved
Enrollment for the next program cycle, covering 2026-2027, is open through Oct. 15. Any PTA in the Cobb County School District can apply. East Cobb school PTAs are organized under the East Cobb County Council of PTAs, and families can find their local unit at ecccpta.org.
PTAs that want to enroll for the 2026-2027 cycle must complete their application by Oct. 15.
