Walton put up 42 points and held North Clayton to a single late touchdown Friday, Aug. 28, winning the inaugural Burnett Bowl 42-7 at Raider Valley.

Junior quarterback Christion Peacock completed 14 of 26 passes for three touchdowns as the Raiders bounced back from a 32-20 loss to Roswell in the Corky Kell-Dave Hunter Classic. Both teams entered the game at 1-1.

The game earned its name from a family split across both sidelines. Walton defensive backs coach Morgan Burnett, a former Georgia Tech safety who won Super Bowl XLV with the Green Bay Packers during a 10-year NFL career, faced his older brother Cap Burnett, North Clayton's head coach. Morgan's son, Georgia Tech commit MJ Burnett, suited up for the Raiders.

"They beat us up, man," Walton head coach Daniel Brunner said of North Clayton after the game, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. "The scoreboard really didn't show how hard they played and what they did on the football field."

Peacock got the offense rolling early. After converting a third-and-18 on the ground, he found CJ Jordan for a 3-yard touchdown to make it 7-0. North Clayton muffed the ensuing kickoff, and Peacock connected with junior Aiden Opore for a 24-yard score to push the lead to 14-0 after the first quarter.

The Raiders kept converting on long odds. Facing fourth-and-13 from the North Clayton 32, Peacock threw to Jordan, who went up and over a defender to wrestle the ball in for a 21-0 lead.

North Clayton's best chance in the first half ended in heartbreak. Running back Jaylen Washington ripped off a 38-yard run to the Walton 8-yard line, then fumbled on first-and-goal.

Walton capped the half with a 13-play, 95-yard drive finished by a 4-yard rushing touchdown from sophomore Jett Collins. The Raiders led 28-0 at the break.

The defense kept the pressure on in the third quarter. After North Clayton recovered a fumbled snap in Walton territory, North Clayton quarterback Justin Murphy threw an interception to defensive back Tomi Abimbola, giving the ball right back. Peacock then found Hollis Williams for a 58-yard completion, setting up Collins' second 4-yard touchdown run. One play later, linebacker Garrison Muller returned a fumble 30 yards for a defensive score.

Opore finished with eight receptions and a touchdown. Brunner said Opore had his best week of practice all year and predicted the breakout before kickoff.

Brunner said Morgan Burnett's impact goes beyond scheme. The former NFL safety brings "more passion than he does knowledge, which is kind of crazy to think," Brunner said.

Walton, now 2-1, faces its toughest test of the young season Friday, Sept. 4, when the Raiders travel to No. 3 North Gwinnett in Suwanee. North Clayton, now 1-2, plays all three September games on the road, including region matchups against North Paulding and Wheeler.
