Cobb County Animal Services Director Steve Hammond was the target of an emailed bomb threat that led to the arrest of a Washington state man, according to court documents.

Mativa James Taoipu, 36, sent Hammond an email calling him an "animal seriel killer" and threatening to bomb his house, as first reported by Fox 5 Atlanta on Sunday, Sept. 20, citing Cobb County law enforcement officials. Investigators traced the digital message back to Taoipu in Washington state.

The Marietta Daily Journal confirmed the arrest Monday, Sept. 21, citing court documents. Taoipu faces terroristic threats charges.

Taoipu was booked into the Cobb County Jail on a $5,000 bond, according to law enforcement officials cited by Fox 5 Atlanta. The Cobb County Sheriff's Office provided a booking photo of Taoipu to the Marietta Daily Journal.

The threat targeted Hammond at his home. Hammond serves as director of Cobb County Animal Services, the county department based in Marietta.

Officials have not confirmed what motivated the threat against Hammond, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. Authorities also have not released details on whether Taoipu will be extradited from Washington state or when he will appear in court.

Court documents cited in the reporting do not specify whether the terroristic threats charge is classified as a misdemeanor or felony.
