A driver suffered serious injuries Thursday evening, Aug. 6, when a truck collided with a tractor-trailer on Ernest W. Barrett Parkway, according to the Marietta Daily Journal, citing the Cobb County Police Department.

Police have not released the name of the injured driver, the specific location along Barrett Parkway where the crash occurred, or details about what caused the collision. No charges have been announced. The department had not issued a public statement with additional details as of Friday morning, Aug. 7.

The crash is the latest in a series of serious traffic incidents on the heavily traveled East Cobb corridor in 2026. A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries on Barrett Parkway near Anderson Estates Court on July 25, prompting an investigation by the department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Unit. As we reported July 28, that unit, commanded by Lt. Lane Johnson, handles all fatal and serious-injury traffic crash investigations in the county.

The Cobb County Department of Transportation issued traffic alerts for crashes on Barrett Parkway on at least four separate occasions between May and July. The road is lined with shopping centers and residential subdivisions and carries heavy daily traffic volumes.

It is not clear whether the STEP Unit has been assigned to investigate Thursday's truck-tractor-trailer collision. Police described the crash only as under investigation by the department.

Sgt. Eric Smith of the Cobb County Police Department warned drivers about speed on county roads in a July 7 statement connected to a separate fatal crash on Macland Road: "Do not treat the roadway as a racetrack or a speedway. We have posted speed limits for a reason."
