Georgia Furniture Mart is shutting down for good, and its Kennesaw store on Cobb Place Boulevard is now running a final liquidation sale before the doors close permanently.

The 40-year-old metro Atlanta retailer opened the sale to the public Thursday, July 16, at both its Kennesaw and Norcross locations, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. The sale will continue while inventory lasts. No specific closing date has been announced.

The Kennesaw showroom, at 860 Cobb Place Blvd. NW, Suite 106, opened in 2024. It's the closer of the two stores for East Cobb residents, about 20 minutes north on I-75.

Founder Michael Hall started the business in 1986 as Underpriced Furniture. He and business partner Tim Padden rebranded it as Georgia Furniture Mart in 2020, the same year they opened a distribution center in Tucker that enabled next-day delivery. The flagship Norcross store, at 6694 Dawson Blvd., houses a 92,000-square-foot showroom and an attached 20,000-square-foot outlet.

The company did not publicly state a reason for the closure.

"We are deeply thankful to everyone who has been part of this journey and entrusted us with their homes," Hall said in the company's announcement Monday, July 13. "While this chapter is coming to a close, the memories and relationships we've built will always remain."

During the liquidation, the stores are offering deep discounts on complete living room, dining room, and bedroom sets, along with rugs. Brands on the floor include Tempur-Pedic, Stearns & Foster, Sealy, Southern Motion, Leather Italia, and Parker House, among others.

Hall and Padden have supported veterans' organizations, youth programs, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital over the company's four decades, according to the MDJ.

Both locations are open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. The phone number for either store is (404) 806-1499. More information is available at gafurnituremart.com.
