East Cobb commuters face lane closures on at least four roads through fall 2026, according to a Cobb County DOT update posted Wednesday, July 29.

The biggest project: the $7 million Lower Roswell Road safety overhaul between Woodlawn Drive and Davidson Road, first reported by East Cobb News when construction began. One-direction lane closures are possible Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Thursday, Nov. 19. The 0.6-mile stretch is getting intersection improvements, raised medians to reduce left-turn crashes, and a multi-use trail on the south side of the road. June construction activities included storm drain placement, a new driveway into the Kroger Shopping Center, and traffic signal installation east of Johnson Ferry Road.

That timeline has not changed.

Cobb DOT Project Manager Karyn Matthews told the East Cobb Civic Association at its August 2025 meeting that the project "is expected to be completed in November of 2026." The county's project page confirms a Nov. 19 completion date.

Here's what else is active:

Canton Road at Piedmont Road: A right-turn lane is being added from Canton Road northbound onto Piedmont Road eastbound, along with signal and pedestrian improvements. One-direction lane closures run through Monday, Nov. 9. Project manager: Ana Fraundorf.

Shallowford Road at Gordy Parkway West: Turn lanes on northbound Gordy Parkway are being realigned, with new pavement markings and signal modifications. One-direction closures continue through Saturday, Aug. 29. Project manager: Ana Fraundorf.

East West Connector (District 4): Westbound turn lanes at Fontaine Road and Cooper Lake Road are being extended. This closure is scheduled to wrap up Friday, July 31, so drivers should see relief within days. Project manager: Jenny Lee.

All four projects are funded through Cobb County SPLOST programs from the 2011 and 2022 cycles. Two other countywide closures are also active: Old Floyd Road's bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railway is fully closed through Tuesday, July 6, 2027, for a widening project, and Due West Road at Antioch Road has both-direction closures for a new roundabout with a completion date of Monday, Oct. 11, 2027, according to the county's project page.
