About 300 to 350 East Cobb families walked away from Brumby Elementary School on Tuesday, July 21, with bags of fresh groceries, clear backpacks stuffed with school supplies, and hot meals, all free and less than two weeks before the first day of school.

Whataburger and the Atlanta Community Food Bank set up a mobile food pantry at the school, according to East Cobb News. Volunteers handed out produce and pantry staples while the Whataburger Food Truck served hot food to families waiting in line.

Whataburger employees, whom the chain calls "Family Members," worked alongside Atlanta Community Food Bank staff and other community partners to sort and distribute the supplies. A photo from the event shows a volunteer passing clear backpacks directly to students.

Part of a broader push

The pantry is part of Whataburger's "Feeding Student Success" initiative, which targets two back-to-school hurdles across Cobb County: access to nutritious food and essential school supplies. In a statement released July 28, the company said the partnerships reflect its commitment to meeting immediate needs and giving students the resources to start the school year strong.

Cobb County schools open for the 2026–27 year on Monday, August 3, making the Brumby event a timely resource push for families still gathering supplies.
