A man riding a scooter suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by two separate cars on Powder Springs Road in south Marietta late Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The crash happened at approximately 11:30 p.m. west of Hammond Woods Circle, according to Cobb County Police, as reported by the Marietta Daily Journal.

Police said the man was crossing Powder Springs Road westbound on a scooter outside of a crosswalk when he entered the path of a 2007 Toyota Camry traveling northbound. The front of the Camry collided with the rider, redirecting him northward into a southbound lane of Powder Springs Road.

A 2010 Honda Civic traveling southbound then struck the man a second time, police said.

Both drivers remained at the scene.

The scooter rider was transported by ambulance to Kennestone Hospital with life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported. Police have not released the rider's name or age, and no condition update beyond the initial transport has been provided.

Powder Springs Road is a multi-lane arterial corridor in the southern portion of Cobb County, connecting several residential neighborhoods west of Marietta.

The collision remains under investigation by the Cobb County Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Unit. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the STEP Unit at (770) 499-3987.

Two other serious crashes occurred on Cobb County roads earlier in August. A motorcyclist was seriously injured on an I-285 ramp on Aug. 4, and a pickup driver suffered life-threatening injuries in a head-on crash with a tanker on Barrett Parkway on Aug. 8.
